Knitter's Jig is an East Midlands based 4 piece band including caller.  All are fine musicians with many years experience of playing for both concerts and dances.  The usual line up includes Alice on fiddle, Nick on piano accordion, Glen on double bass and Norma calling. However, a number of other instruments are often used including guitar, melodeon, bodhran and tin whistle.

Norma is not only the caller for the dances  but is also a well established singer.  Her aim, as caller, is  to encourage you to join in with some great dances and ensure you thoroughly  enjoy yourselves.

Alice is the band leader and has been playing in English country dance bands since she was 13.

She is a fine fiddle player and also joins in with some of the calling.  She also has a good turn of speed for Scottish and Irish jigs and reels and will usually play a selection at each ceilidh.

Nick is an accomplished piano accordion player and guitarist. He has been playing accordion for over 20 years and guitar for more years than he likes to let on.  Nick has played regularly in several dance bands and Morris sides.  He has duo'd with Alice for several years and is a keen supporter of early English music.

Glen is the final member of the band.  He plays double bass, guitar and bodhran (not all at the same time).  Glen has been around the music scene  for many years playing with a number of folk and cover bands.

Knitter’s Jig was chosen for the band’s name due to the fact that all members live in or around the city of Leicester - the one time centre for the knitting and hosiery industry. The Knitter’s Jig is also a great tune composed by someone with the rather unusual name of Pat Wexielblatt.
