Unlike some advertisers, Knitter’s Jig is a genuine band made up of musicians who have performed together for many years. The musicians you see and hear on this web site are the ones who will come to your event. We do not use different musicians for different parts of the country and we are not an agency masquerading as a band. With Knitter’s Jig what you see is what you get -

I Weddings & Parties
The band perform at numerous weddings and special events every year and recognise the significance of these important days to all our clients. Whatever your requirements we will try our best to ensure both you and your guests have a really lovely day. Our caller will select dances that will fit with a variety of age groups from young children to great grandmas to ensure everyone has the opportunity to join in. We understand that most events rarely go according to schedule and so will always try our best to adapt to your requirements on the day.
I What we provide
We will bring our own modern, professional PA sound system which can also be used to provide background music during the break. For an additional fee, our PA system and a set of modern disco lights can be hired for use after the ceilidh. Music can be played using your own CDs (player provided) or via your Ipod/tablet/smart phone etc. This can be a very cost effective alternative to hiring a separate DJ and disco.
I Themes
Most people prefer a mixture of dances and tunes from the various parts of the British Isles and the USA but if you would like a particular theme for your special day, we can usually adapt the music and dances to fit with your requirements. We are often asked to play at ‘Scottish’ events and have developed a set of dances and tunes that have proved very popular. Similarly, we can include various sets of Irish fiddle tunes to give the event an Irish feel or some Ho-
Knitter’s Jig is based in the Midlands and its usual line up is between 3 and 4 musicians (with caller) depending on the type of event and budget. All band members are fine musicians with many years experience of playing for both concerts and dances. The core line up includes Alice on fiddle, Nick on accordion and Glen on double bass and bodhran with one of the musicians (usually Alice or Glen) doubling as caller. This line up can be complimented by adding additional musicians (Dale on guitar and/or Olive on fiddle) or a dedicated caller if required.
l Alice is the band leader and has been playing in English country dance bands since she was 13. She is an exceptionally fine fiddle player and accomplished caller. She also has a good turn of speed for lively Scottish and Irish jigs and reels and will usually play a selection at each event.
l Nick is an exceptionally skilful piano accordion player and guitarist. He has been playing accordion for over 30 years and guitar for more years than he likes to let on. Nick has played regularly in several dance bands and Morris sides. He has duo'd with Alice for several years and is a keen supporter of early English music.
l Glen is the final core member of the band. He plays double bass, guitar and bodhran (not all at the same time) -
l Dale has been playing guitar since he was 10 and has performed in many bands including Cernewoda, BKTB, We Can Be Astronauts and Malarkey Ceilidh Band. He is an accomplished musician on button accordion, electric/acoustic guitars and mandolin. Dale joins us whenever he is available. Watch Dale on Youtube
l Olive plays fiddle and produces fine harmonies and counter melodies perfectly complimenting Alice and Nick’s melodies. She regularly plays in other bands but we are always pleased when she is able to join us at gigs and add that little bit of sparkle to the sound.

We try to keep things as simple as possible but there are a few things to be aware of. A small deposit is usually required to confirm the booking. The balance is normally to be paid in cash on the day. If you wish to pay the balance by cheque or bank transfer this must be received by the band prior to the event. This would be detailed on the booking form.
It is the organiser's responsibility to ensure the venue is suitable and safe and the event complies with any licensing, or other legal requirements.
Please note: in line with tradition, Knitter’s Jig will use the terms men and women or ladies and gentlemen when calling the dances. Please bear this in mind if you have a particular view on the use or appropriateness of these terms.
